Research Interests

In recent years, Taiwan's communications industry has flourished rapidly, its output value leapfrogging to become one of the nation's most important industries, boasting immense potential and significant room for growth. Furthermore, the establishment of the Southern Taiwan Science Park and the National Telecommunications Technology Center requires a significant talent pool. Therefore, our institute will focus on cutting-edge communications technology development, international exchange and collaboration, and collaboration with the southern Taiwan industry. Building on our existing solid foundation, we have formulated the following research directions and goals:

  • Next-generation mobile communications and satellite communications
  • Multimedia communications technologies and systems
  • Cloud computing platform technologies and applications
  • Wireless network technologies and applications
  • Biomedical sensing and smart health promotion systems
  • Smart environments and interactive technologies

Overview of the Communications and Networking group (examples from NCKU EE faculty): wired (optical fiber) and wireless transmission, high-frequency (microwave and millimeter-wave) circuits and antennas, image and speech recognition and processing, hyperspectral image processing, communication IC design, communication standards, wireless networks, IoT, vehicular networks, next-generation mobile and satellite communications, secure communications, biomedical applications, and speech and video compression. Illustrated examples include massive MIMO system design, a radar IC for sensing cardiopulmonary signals, UAV-assisted wireless networks, 5G beamforming air interface, and analysis of malicious network behavior.
